“Can we ensure success – that what we visualize will materialize?? And if we can’t ENSURE it then how do we at least begin to encourage it? It is chance luck? Do we make a detailed plan? Does success land in our lap or do we have to go out and search for it? How awful if we don’t know what we want… and it lands in our lap…and we don’t recognize it for the gift that it is! How many opportunities may have passed us by because we did not know that we were supposed to grab a hold of them? We were too single-minded and hyper-focused on the tree in front of us to see the forest.
“I have said before that I want to be successful, but not necessary in the same way that you do. It all comes down to what motivates us…money? possessions? popularity? power? influence? None of those things motivate me.
“First we have to determine our objective. Why do we do what we do and what are we trying to gain? This is an INTENTIONAL question – what is your intent? Your purpose? Are you thinking, concentrating, using your mind to plan? with a goal?” me…a few days ago.

If you know me well now, or knew me growing up you are aware that I am ADHD. I have always had a hard time sitting still or staying focused. But when writing, I am forced to sit in one place (although I do tend to get up and down about 100 times while I write any one article)…and I have to focus my attention on one task (unless I get distracted – which happens 102 times per article. ) Ok. You get the picture. I am never still and never focused, but when I am writing sometimes all of the threads connect and intertwine and by the finish I have created a certain “life-rope” that I can grab a hold of and say, “yes. I know that. Thank you God for the reminder!” Or I may see a thousand glimmers that once gathered on the page join force and shine in a way that by the end I can say, “Yes. I see. Thank you, God for lighting my way.”
If by chance I ever say anything that speaks to you, offers you a “life-rope” or a “light,” please know that the quotes or the scriptures that I share usually do not come to me prior to my sitting down to “focus”. Usually all I know is what I want to get across…but how I get there is “led”. I plan to make this my final article on the week’s topic of “Success”. Before I totally wrap it up, I want to share with you a few more thoughts.
I have told you several times that I am not motivated by money or power or possessions or popularity. But I think I may have been in error when I said that I wasn’t motivated by influence.
As a “wordsmith:))” I had to look up the definition of “influence” just now to make CERTAIN exactly what it means, and THIS is what it says
1. : an ethereal fluid held to flow from the stars and to affect the actions of men
2. : an emanation of spiritual or moral force
3 : the act or power of producing an effect without apparent exertion of force or direct exercise of command
4/ 2: 1 : the power or capacity of causing an effect in indirect or intangible ways
2/2 : to have an effect on the condition or developement of
Heck Yea! That DOES motivate me. I can see myself standing on a star right now with fairy dust…to make a magical , un -apparent spell over everyone so that they UNDERSTAND and GET IT and SEE.
Actually, it’s true. I WANT to MAKE A DIFFERENCE! But I don’t want it to be for selfish gains… and I don’t want to magically make someone think or act like someone other than who God made them to be. I want to motivate…I want to inspire…I want to influence…But what I REALLY want to do is EDUCATE! “To develop mentally or morally especially by instruction.” I want to provide the information…and then what you do with it is up to you and God.
My husband is a talented man. He is very knowledgable about his field of expertise, but he has the heart of a servant. Does he want to succeed? Absolutely. He has a LOT of people and animals who depend on him. But his approach to life is refreshingly different from many ambitious people I know. He has the mindset that if he finds a good fishing hole he DOES NOT want to keep its where- abouts secret and to himself. If he finds a good fishing hole, he wants to let everybody else know what he has found so that they can benefit too. I agree with this. So what if the fish stop coming there…or the supply in that one spot gets low because of so many other people’s “success”. In the meantime, look how many people he has helped! Look how many friends he has made! Look at how many important connections he now has…connections that may know where the best orchard is…or where the best berry patch is…or where the freshest drinking water flows. Knowledge is only useful if it is shared. We will never be in need when we give of what we have.
That is what I want to share with you…what I have. My knowledge about a lot of seemingly trivial things…when put together they represent A LOT of information that may not be known or come easily to others.
My marketing minded husband would call this: my “PLATFORM” (or my REASON,or my PURPOSE) What is my goal? My theme? What do I stand for? What is my passion? What do I want to spend my energy doing? What do I want to blog about? WHO AM I?
Thinking about those questions is why I had my “THAT’S IT!” moment!
I love to write, but I have been all over the place in my blog – instead of a specific “niche” I want to be “FOUND” by people who are looking for answers for something that IS inspirational…and educational…and motivational…but that is ALSO and above all, PRACTICAL. And it has to be something that I KNOW like the back of my hand! So, I am going to be starting a NEW BLOG over this HOLIDAY SEASON and through the first of the New Year (my gift to me:)). I am going to continue to write articles on christyslifelessons, but starting this week they will begin to write articles that I can post to my NEW BLOG when I get it up and running.
I don’t want to just be a random part-time writer who writes on a whim. I have decided to follow my husband’s plan for success for marketing and do the following:
1. Find my “Platform.” It isn’t vague, anymore. I have a clarity of HOW to make a difference now…by using what I know, and sharing it.
2. What is my “strategy” … what can I offer? How can I add value? Specifically how can I differentiate myself from everybody else that wants to write things down on a blog and who is it that I want to reach?
3. Dean’s #3 is “Choose a Product”…”A ‘hook’ with mass appeal…perhaps something that people feel emotionally that they need.” Well, that doesn’t necessarily fit what I want to do because my “product” is information. I will only talk about topics that I think people would like to know or things that I think are truly needed. If I ever promote anything in any of my writings it will only b because I 100% BELIEVE in the ‘thing’. I want to help people solve problems…maybe save money…maybe save time, reduce stress, work more productively…Help people learn from the things that I know so that hopefully they won’t have to “recreate the wheel.”
4. Dean’s #4 is “A well-designed web-site”. Dean built my christyslifelessons website for me over a year and a half ago when I told him that I wanted to write… and he told me that by all means then I should!
I will continue this blog to write my “life lessons” for whatever audience wants to read it! But I am going to start a new FORUM blog where people can contribute articles and ideas with the Domain name: “sos4mom” (S.O.S. for Mom!)
You will learn more about it as I get it going…but all my talk lately of being Intentional to be successful has made me ask myself…”What do you know? What can you share? How can you make an everyday difference?”
S.O.S. stands for among other things…
“Save our SOUL” : Daily devotionals to put something good into our head, heart and spirit each day for adults, teens, children and toddlers. AND Sunday”Sermons” for the Sundays when we just didn’t quite make it to church… including recommendations and links to worship music.
Save our SUPPER : EASY meals to be prepared quickly and with ingredients likely to be found in the pantry, fridge or freezer… How to get kids to eat/ try new things/ get them involved in the planning and preperation…plus it IS true that it is “all in the presentation”.
Save our SIBLINGS : Ideas for how to promote and encourage siblings getting along with each other; inexpensive party ideas; inexpensive outings; unusual ways to find hours of entertainment; arts and craft ideas; suggested books, videos etc.; how to survive trips; ways to get your children to help around the house; and other age appropriate ideas and topics.
Save our SEASONS : Ideas for games, crafts, trips, gardening, parties etc. for each of the seasons and main Holidays
Save our SAVINGS: How to budget; buying frugally; ways to make extra money; spending wisely on gifts, parties, meals, trips
Save our SANITY: A VIRTUAL place where busy women can escape to have book club discussions; share “dinner club” recipes; share favorite quotes; discuss hot topics; enlighten us with household tips; also discussions about what we believe to be the best family trips (or couple get-aways) complete with where to stay, what to eat and “must do” items.
Also to help maintain sanity…How to ORGANIZE what is necessary; How to PURGE what isn’t.
Save our Stories : Share our favorite stories…we can save them by writing them down, enjoy them while we re-call them and enjoy the comments by the readers. We can archive funny stories, and provide helpful hints and “life lessons” from true stories.
Save our Sex-life : Just because we are old and tired doesn’t mean we are dead! Couples ides to keep marriage fresh and love growing.
So THAT is my idea. It may be called “MOM” but that does not mean it is specific to the female gender or even married women or mothers. It is “Mom” because that is me:)There will be something about everything for everybody. I have been a kid, a professional, a wife, a mother, a teacher, a coach, a friend. I plan to use what I know, and I want your help to make this a place to come and learn and laugh and share. That big plan is what a week of success quotes and ideas has spurred within me! Wish me luck, and I wish YOU luck with whatever ideas you have. I hope that you will be brave and decide that “IF YOU CAN CONCEIVE IT…and BELIEVE IT then you CAN ACHIEVE IT! ” I hope that you will take that to heart. I hope you have the desire to move your life forward in the direction that will bring value to your day, and to the lives of others. The place you are meant to be.
“A bit of advice Given to a young Native American At the time of his initiation: As you go the way of life, you will see a great chasm. Jump. It is not as wide as you think.” Joseph Campbell
Good luck. You can.
